We fight in 2020 for justice, because justice isn't being done when a young black man in Louisiana gets life in prison for selling $20 worth of marijuana while our president obstructs justice from the oval office. True justice means that we don't have a justice system that imprisons and kills black Americans for doing the same things white Americans do every day. And true justice means that we need to start impeachment proceedings on Monday.

For many Americans, guns are a big part of their culture and identity. However, guns are a major responsibility ... gun owners should continue to enjoy the right to bear arms, subject to licensing and education requirements that will encourage the public safety.

We actually, right now, because the NRA has such a restrictive law in our state, I can't even ban assault style weapons in our city parks where our kids play. I'm not sitting back, I'm suing the State of Florida so that mayors can have a bigger say in gun control in our cities.

No more turning a blind eye to American lives stolen by gun violence. We must enact truly universal background checks for all gun and ammunition purchases, do more to take guns away from domestic abusers, push states to adopt gun violence restraining order laws, and remove weapons of war from our communities once and for all. I’m the only candidate calling for a mandatory national ban and buyback of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons.

Mass shootings and gun violence are a national crisis that threaten the safety of our families and communities. We can’t accept repeated tragedies and tens of thousands of deaths every year as normal, and we can’t accept politicians choosing NRA money over Americans’ lives. We need to pass universal background checks, stop gun trafficking, ban assault rifles and close gun sale loopholes to make sure guns can’t get into the hands of dangerous criminals, terrorists or domestic abusers. Kirsten has fearlessly and consistently stood up for commonsense gun safety and taken on the greed of the gun lobby in the Senate, earning her a proud “F” rating from the NRA.

Gun violence prevention policies are long overdue. Amy supports a package of gun violence policies including instituting universal background checks by closing the gun show loophole and banning bump stocks, high capacity ammunition feeding devices and assault weapons. She is also the author of a proposal that would close what is commonly referred to as the ‘boyfriend loophole’ by preventing people who have abused dating partners from buying or owning firearms.

We have a beautiful country, but it is marred by racial injustice. All of us have got to buckle down to bring a little more justice to the justice system. I'm the first governor that has sought the pardon for thousands of people caught up in the drub war so we can reduce racial disparity and we can do the same thing on a national level. We know that the death penalty has not been racially neutral and so we got rid of the death penalty in my state and we are going to keep working on this.

Let us not just end the prohibition of marijuana, or the expungement of the records of those arrested solely for possession of a substance legal in most of this country — let’s go beyond ending cash bail, prisons for profit and the war on drugs and confront the true legacy of slavery, of segregation and suppression, of how people have been criminalized and kept down based on their race and ethnicity.Source: Candidate Website

Lawmakers owe it to the American people to explore every possible remedy to the crisis of gun violence in our country. We must find a way to reduce the staggering number of gun deaths each year while still maintaining our 2nd Amendment rights. It’s long past time we got serious.

If we are going to be the fairest nation on earth then we need to reimagine and reform our justice system so that everybody is innocent until proven guilty. Sentencing reform, cash bail reform, investing in public defenders.

I beat the NRA before and we need to do it again. And by the way, use technology so that you cannot fire a gun unless it has your biometric prints on it. And that means no problem in terms of the second amendment and you have to pass the background checks that I put into law as a consequence of the Brady agreement.
