Virtual Debates: 2020 Presidential Candidate

Michael Bennet

My mom and her parents came to the United States to rebuild their shattered lives, the only country that they could. 300 years before that my father's family came searching religious freedom here. The ability for one generation to do better than the next is now severely at risk in the United States. I especially among children living in poverty like the ones I used to work for in the Denver public schools. That's why I'm running for president. I've had two tough races in Colorado - by bringing people together, not be making empty promises. And I believe we need to build a broad coalition of Americans to beat Donald Tump and the corruption in Washington and build a new era of American democracy and American opportunity. This is going to be hard to do, but it is what our parents would have expected. It's what our kids deserve. I hope you will join me in this effort.

Economic Stimulus

$5 trillion dollars on tax cuts almost all for the richest people in the country and another $5.6 trillion on wars in the Middle East. We might as well have just lit that money on fire. We could have fixed every road and bridge in America. We could have fixed every airport in America. We could have given the middle class a real tax cut and made social security solvent for my daughter Caroline, and we did none of it.

Education

Every kid in America ought ot have access to high quality pre-school. And every kid in America ought to be able to go to a K-12 school that even a Senator would send their kids to. And every kid in America who gets into the best college should be able ot graduate from that college debt free. And the 70% of kids in America who don't go to college ought to be able to earn more than minimum wage because we have given them the skills they need in high school or community college. And we need to pay teachers like the professionals that they are - not just a few percentage points more.

Politics

Our politics are not up to the task of fixing the problems that we face. That's why last week I proposed a set of ideas... to overturn Citizens United, to end partisan gerrymandering, to ban members of congress from ever becoming lobbyists if they've had the privilege to be in the house or the senate, to restore the voting rights act, to create automatic and same day voter registration all across this country.
