Michael Bennet

Our politics are not up to the task of fixing the problems that we face. That's why last week I proposed a set of ideas... to overturn Citizens United, to end partisan gerrymandering, to ban members of congress from ever becoming lobbyists if they've had the privilege to be in the house or the senate, to restore the voting rights act, to create automatic and same day voter registration all across this country.

Wealthy special interests and their lobbyists have outsized influence over our laws because they can pour unlimited amounts of sometimes-secret money into passing their agenda and bankrolling their allies’ campaigns. We need to overturn Citizens United and get big, unaccountable and secret money out of our politics once and for all. And we need to create a public finance system to restore the principle of one person, one vote.

Donald Trump

Trump has put dozens of conservative judges on the bench, including two Supreme Court justices, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. The high court additions gave Republican appointees a 5-4 majority, and has given conservatives hope of potentially overturning the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.

We didn't get any of those big progressive goals done by using ideological litmus tests. We did it by bringing people together. Our party needs a nominee who will beat Trump and heal this crisis of division. We need a dreamer and a doer. We need a progressive and a pragmatist.

Until we address the fact that the rules are written for those with the biggest checkbooks, we are not going to solve any of the problems we have heard about in the last 17 speeches. When I was Attorney General, I not only organized the states against Citizens United, but then when Washington and every other state said there's nothing we could do, I brought the challenge all the way up to the Supreme Court. I'm the only one in this field trying to hold Donald Trump accountable for turning our elections into dark money auctions.

We fight in 2020 for our democracy, because in the greatest democracy in the world we shouldn't have voter suppression, the filibuster, gerrymandering, or the electoral college to tell people when their votes don't count.

Tom Steyer

In 2017, Tom became the first major Democrat to rally millions of Americans with a public call to impeach Donald Trump. In the recent midterms, Tom led the nation’s largest voter-turnout effort. NextGen organizers worked hundreds of college campuses and city neighborhoods to increase voting by youth, people of color, workers and other underrepresented groups. Need to Impeach mobilized millions of its petition signers. All these voters contributed to Democratic wins that took back the House, won Senate seats and governorships, and captured state legislatures and local races.

I'm a republican who has worked across the isle to get things done. I would have a bi-partisan cabinet if I get to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

I’m running because we’re tired of divisive politics. We’re fed up with the shutdowns and the showdowns, the gridlock and the grandstanding. Today, we say enough is enough.

During my four years in Congress, I got a first-hand view of the impact of lobbying in Washington, DC. The end result is that all too often our laws and policies are directed by corporate power and finances, ensuring corporate interests have priority over the interests of the American people, as well as people around the world. Our government is supposed to be “of, by, and for” the people, so as President I will do everything I can to stop corporate abuses of power and have our government once again be accountable only to the people.

I’ll fight for a constitutional amendment to undo the Citizens United ruling, but meanwhile, we must require secret-money groups to disclose their donors; upgrade transparency rules for online political ads; and start moving toward public financing of campaigns by creating a small donor-focused matching system. And to end the dirty maps created by partisan gerrymandering, all states must adopt independent redistricting commissions so politicians can’t draw lines to protect themselves or each other.

Promote the use of the efficiency gap to measure partisan gerrymandering when evaluating and drawing district maps. Promote the use of independent redistricting commissions. Appoint Supreme Court justices who support the use of sociological tools such as the efficiency gap to help end partisan gerrymandering.
